Overview:
This exciting internship involves learning to plan for sign placement, developing and laying out sign designs prior to fabrication, fabrication of wooden signs to include routing, painting, and the installation of signs in the field. It is a unique opportunity to see all parts of Zion National Park, including the back-country. Many of Zion's signs are historic and were installed almost 75 years ago; the quality of the visitor experience at Zion is tied directly to signs and their appropriate placement. Position Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the planning and layout of Park signs
- Assisting in the fabrication of signs using Park sign-making machines
- Assisting in field work for sign installation and replacement
- Coordinating with museum curators to archive some historic Park signs
- General shop administrative work in vendor research and material ordering
Qualifications:
- Ability to learn how to use computer-aided sign engraving machine
- Ability to use hand and power tools
- Ability to hike short distances to locations where back-country signs require maintenance
